About & data sources
What CarXCheck does
CarXCheck reads a used-car advert you submit (or a reg you enter), combines it with public MOT and vehicle records, and gives you an AI-written buying guide. It is free and independent.
Data sources
- DVSA MOT history — test dates, results, mileage readings, advisories and failures.
- DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service — make, colour, year, fuel, tax and MOT status.
- DfT vehicle licensing statistics — how many of each model are still licensed, by year first used.
- DVSA aggregated MOT statistics — model-level pass rates and common failures, when available.
- The advert — only the single link you submit, or text and photos you paste.
- Wikimedia Commons — freely licensed representative car images, always credited (author · licence · source).
- AI estimates — market value and repair costs are estimates. Estimated value — guidance only, not a formal valuation.
Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
